ABSTRACT
In September 2013, the University of Hull (UK) hosted a conference entitled “The African American Experience Since 1992.” Organized jointly by the American Studies program and the Wilberforce Institute for the study of Slavery and Emancipation (WISE), the conference attracted a wide range of delegates from across the US, UK, and Europe. The event aimed to examine, explore, and critically engage with issues relating to African American life and cultural representation in the post-Civil Rights era. This conference formed part of the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the American Studies degree program at Hull and we thank the US Embassy in London for supporting the proceedings. This collection of chapters stems from the papers presented at that event.
