ABSTRACT

As Malaysia takes on a new face as an ageing society, it also recognises the fact that the government and the general public are faced with new challenges. Parent support ratio (PSR) is the measurement used to measure the extent of the sandwich generation. A research study on the lifestyle of government sector pensioners in the District of Hulu Langat, Selangor, conducted by Masitah Mohd Yatim demonstrates that the economic well-being of the elderly is affected by the fact that the majority of the respondents. It was found to exist among rural-urban settings and also based on gender in Malaysia. As Malaysia is well into the information communications and technology (ICT) age, it would be an advantage for the elderly workforce to be ICT savvy. Although the government has taken steps to facilitate knowledge building in society, it is still far from reaching the desired stage. The government's efforts must be supported by active participation by members of society.
