ABSTRACT

This chapter gives an account of the Portuguese demographic statistics over the period 2001-2007. It analyses the social responsibility of the legal provisions as the basis for the prevention discrimination in the labour market; and discusses the sustainability of the solutions posed by ageing populations for the labour market. The chapter discuses accountability, sustainability and social responsibility which emphasizes, among other competences of the elderly, their professional, cultural, social, moral and linguistic skills, knowing that individuals develop their personality and behaviour throughout their lives, which has been affected, either directly and indirectly for example, by family, work, society and community. The Convention signed in Paris on December 1960 allows the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) to promote policies to achieve the highest sustainable economic and employment growth as well as a rising standard of social responsibility with a view to sustainability development of the world economy.
