ABSTRACT
Introduction This chapter explores Alevism as a faith of multi-ethnic Central and Eastern Anatolian communities and stresses its distinction from Islam – not as a heterodox branch but, in contrast, as a unique belief system. Despite the discussions that touch debates around the ethnic origin of Alevism, this chapter will explore roots and practices as an introduction to Alevism through fundamentals of historical trajectory and the essential rituals.
