ABSTRACT

Introduction This chapter presents the initial findings of a study on Alevi communities in London. The study is part of a wider research project on the Alevis in Europe. Our key aim is to explore varying constructions of Alevi identities in transnational contexts by looking at intergenerational variations in perceptions and aspirations of Alevi communities in three European countries: namely UK, Germany and Netherlands. Findings presented in this chapter relate to the first phase of data (focus group discussions) collected in Issa and Çelik’s fieldwork conducted in London between October and December 2010.
