ABSTRACT

This chapter elaborates that architectural competitions are not finished when the results are announced. It focuses on how competitions act on the follow-up of the building process. The chapter looks at the technical terminology developed in the field of project management in construction above ground. Muhm (2014) assigns the competition procedure to a phase called 'Development of a concept' and names the subsequent phase 'Planning'. According to Menz (2009), the building process can be divided into six phases such as Strategic Planning, Preliminary Studies, project, Invitation to Tender, Implementation and Management. The chapter focuses on the transition between preliminary studies, to which the competition 'selection procedure' is assigned, and project. It provides a detailed account of the reformulation of one particular winning competition entry during project. The concept of translation as coined by Callon (1986) will be applied to provide an analysis, which also incorporates findings from another thirteen case studies.
