ABSTRACT

What lessons can we draw from the various contributions to this volume and what do they suggest in terms of avenues for future research? The chapters in this volume have all contributed to our understanding of anti-austerity movements and protest in times of crisis by speaking to three key debates in the scholarly literature: the effects of economic hardship on protest and social movements, the role of grievances and opportunities in social movement theory, and the distinction between “old” and “new” movements.
