ABSTRACT
This chapter talks about the securitization of border discourse, the relentless evolution of the military industrial complex that has continued; it is morphing into a 'security industrial' complex that enlists the same mechanisms as its precursor and, in a feedback loop, helps drive the militarization and fortification of borders. It argues that the creation of a barrier between India and China also derives to some extent from a desire to freeze a de facto state of affairs and alleviate the risk of direct confrontation along that section of their disputed border. The chapter also explains the barbed wire, sensors, and the barrier to connect the command centres. Border barriers are demanding increasingly elaborate and complex technology, spawning a new industry and new international markets in which the private sector is playing a prominent role. This chapter explains that the post-9/11 environment has given rise to a securitization of border discourses that supports militarization of the borderline.
