ABSTRACT

This chapter explains the transformation project referred to as the Hilti Case. It presents relevant background information and specifically defining the need for action along with the goals, vision and strategy. The chapter describes projects realization, its major results, and also the lessons learned as reflected by the managers involved in the project. It conducts between 2009 and 2010 interviews and intensive document analysis. The results are presented in the form of a case narrative to allow for different perspectives of analysis in future studies. Hilti is a global corporation in the construction industry. It provides tools, systems and services to customers worldwide. The idea of a globally integrated work system first surfaced as early as 1963 according to Michael Hilti quoting his father. The GPD project was communicated in an open and honest way with clear targets. The GPD project resulted in a transformative change in the way Hilti does business.
