ABSTRACT

Shaping OurSpace was an interdisciplinary project that sought to develop and understand the process of bringing together geography and theater to engage children in spatial reasoning. As we began to look at the ways the children in our project were drawing, writing, talking, and moving about space, we realized that nature had become a central theme as they assessed their own neighborhoods and imagined and planned a new neighborhood community. This chapter analyses children’s ideas of nature in the Shaping OurSpace project through the concept of embodiment.
