ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to identify drivers for green entrepreneurship in tourism, focusing on entrepreneurial resources and skills, as well as regional networks. Interviews conducted within the Northern Black Forest region show that the introduction of green innovations is made difficult. The chapter contributes to the small body of literature on the view of tourism based on natural resources. Practical value is added by recommendations on how to foster green entrepreneurship as a tool for sustainable regional development in tourism. The chapter discusses the question: Which factors are able to promote resource efficiency in tourism. It considers the market opportunities, the company requires specific competencies. The chapter presents a case study, which focuses on the northern part of the Black Forest. In general, there are several drivers of green innovation. First, the specific skills and expertise of the entrepreneurs determine their innovative capability. Second, market dynamics drive innovation: reacting to new customer needs. Third, technological trends lead to innovation.
