ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book presents the computer game industry represents the quintessential intersection between technical and technological innovation and creative activity; as such, the field of technical communication is especially well poised to attend to it. Computer games are highly technical, mediating between designer vision and player experience via circuits and code. And this is where the field of professional and technical communication can contribute to game studies and game industries. The book addresses the intersections between professional and technical communication and game studies explicitly. It examines the evolving documentation practices in the game industry for opportunities to inform professional and technical communication practice. The book explores how the game industry involves players at multiple levels in the processes of producing and consuming games.
