ABSTRACT

In the early to mid-1990s a number of People's Shows took place at museums across the UK, bringing to the fore the collecting interests of members of the public. The first exhibition in 1990 was conceived by Peter Jenkinson with Jo Digger, who advertised for collectors by means of a flyer that read:

We are looking for collections by Walsall people for a new exhibition at Walsall Museum and Art Gallery called The People's Show. If you collect anything as an interest or a hobby, or simply as a decoration in your home, we would like to hear from you.
