ABSTRACT
In his 1984 book on the pharmaceutical industry, the Australian researcher John Braithwaite reported that two American pharmaceutical executives whom he interviewed had the job title of “vice-president responsible for going to jail” (Braithwaite, 1984). In other words, should the companies that these two people worked for ever be convicted in criminal court and a jail sentence imposed, they were the ones who would be imprisoned.
