ABSTRACT

The Romà are an ethnic minority of around 12 million people. They are present worldwide and about 10 of the 12 million Romà people are located in Europe, especially in Romania (between 1,800,000 and 2,500,000), Bulgaria (between 700,000 and 800,000) and Hungary (550,000 to 600,000) (Union Romaní, 2011). Countries with the largest Romà populations include Spain (630,000), France (300,000) and Italy (120,000) (Machiels, 2002).
