ABSTRACT

Bicycle promotion is an important part of overall sustainable urban transport policy and focuses on the improvement of cycling conditions in order to encourage more people to use the bicycle. A bicycle system is made up of infrastructure for cyclists, as well as service facilities, regulations and communication activities, as well as the interaction between these different features. Developing systematic and efficient improvements for a bicycle system requires a good understanding of these components, which, in turn, requires substantial evaluation of what already exists and the contribution that existing components of the system make. In other words, the future direction of cycling promotion requires a good analysis of the current situation.
