ABSTRACT

Cycle users are relatively vulnerable compared with other roads users. In 2010, 1,994 cyclists were killed in road accidents in the EU-20a countries and this compares favourably with 3,217 cyclist deaths in 2001, a reduction of 38 per cent (ERSO 2012). However, the question always remains: how can the safety of cyclists be improved? What are the main measures and actions that make cycling safer?
