ABSTRACT
This chapter explores the development of Dublinked an open data and innovation network initiative aiming to make available to the wider public data about public provisions in the greater Dublin region. In spite of the gloomy mood and economic slowdown, the foundations of Dublin's competitiveness did not wash away, namely its innovative economic and knowledge base. The Irish Industrial and FDI attraction agency reported that in 2011 foreign companies created 13,000 new jobs and invested 700 million in R&D, and the lion's share of this is concentrated in Dublin. Economic development policies rested almost exclusively under the responsibility of the central government and national agencies. Dublin officials have long called for more power and competence to intervene in competitiveness, innovation and economic development issues. One recent step towards a more active stance in economic-innovation issues was the creation of the Creative Dublin Alliance (CDA).
