ABSTRACT

Big Society Capital (BSC) is a major institution in the social investment and social finance space. Its aim is to bring investment capital to a wide range of charities and social enterprises, enhanced by BSC’s own expertise. In November 2016, BSC published a document titled UK Social Investment – Opportunities, Challenges and the “Critical Questions”. Social investment is a chance to offer social organisations a seamless pipeline of financial support and accompany them on their journey, enabling investees to maximise the impact that their organisations can have. The challenges facing social investment are many. As charities and social organisations want to know that the tool they intend to use will work, such success stories are critical in attracting more of them to social investment. Social investment is also a great financial opportunity for investors. It is a chance for social mission organisations to be involved in a social idea right from inception through to initial public offering.
