ABSTRACT

Branchekode is the Danish equivalent to the international statistical system known as NACE' codes, and represents a mandatory stop for all business owners in Denmark to identify and register their companies. The Danish Business Authority's (DBA) development group, Team Effective Regulation (TER), therefore initiated a cross-ministerial project on industry codes led by MindLab to demonstrate the value of closing the last mile separating well-considered regulations from effective use by citizens. Runa Sabroe, one of the lead project managers for MindLab summarized the big picture rationale and aspiration of the project by stressing what is perhaps the real innovative dimension and importance of the endeavour. MindLab, a Danish cross-ministerial innovation unit that anchors their research and practice in design-centred thinking, as much as in qualitative research and policy development, represents a distinct organizational model that bridges both the public and private sector.
