ABSTRACT

Managing information technology (IT) is a key differentiator in times of ongoing digital transformations. Business transformations are doomed to fail if corresponding IT transformations are not managed appropriately, whereas excellence in IT management might create huge markets and transformation success potentials can be leveraged. IT Excellence is seen as one of the three Digital Transformation Enablers in the Digital Capability Framework. These enablers represent underlying capabilities which have to reach a certain level before it makes sense to tackle the Digital Transformation. Moreover, the Digital Transformation Enablers are prerequisites for reaching higher maturity levels in other digital capabilities such as: Customer Centricity, Effective Knowledge Worker, and Operational Excellence. In many companies today, IT can be considered to be the 'shop floor of the enterprise' since many products are already very information prone or become so because of an increase in service orientation of the firm, however, this service orientation also affects IT function or the respective outsourcing provider.
