ABSTRACT

Internationally recognized supply chain expert and panel chair John Gattorna, whose initiative was behind the invitation-only Forum was one of a team from Andersen Consultants that shaped the initial 4PL concept in the mid-1990s. This chapter focuses on John Gattorna's theory of the generic basic types of organizational cultures and the various combinations of these that are possible, Ellis shows that, upon an initial assessment, the subcultures of the Port Waratah Coal Services (PWCS) and Pacific National (PN) diverge from other stakeholders in the coal chain. John Gattorna argues that the energy and thought that has gone into competitive analysis has been excessive, taking the collective eye away from the execution of strategy. The chapter talks about Michael Whiting who argues that collaboration and coordination has improved since the tsunami crisis and the subsequent recovery and rehabilitation programme.
