ABSTRACT

The history of the Deutsche Reichsbahn in East Germany is one of the central topics of the new Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB) Museum. The museum's activities in respect of the heritage of the Reichsbahn are not limited to our permanent exhibition. Outside Nuremberg, the DB Museum has also undertaken some activities to preserve the heritage of the Deutsche Reichsbahn. The history of the Deutsche Reichsbahn in East Germany is one of the central topics of the new DB Museum. The Museum's branch in Halle and der Saale is an authentic home for a considerable number of Reichsbahn locomotives. The exhibition on separate tracks' in the main museum in Nuremberg contains one of the largest and most important presentations of German Democratic Republic (GDR) history in Germany. Visitors move chronologically through 200 years of railway history, from its beginnings in England around 1800 until German reunification in 1989. The presentations are designed not to overwhelm visitors with information.
