ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the contributors to think about what 'lies ahead' in relation to the future directions of progress people see within the context of developments in the design, production and utilisation of electronic performance support systems (EPSS). Laurillard has described the importance of digital technologies in relation to the realisation of educational objectives within nations, societies and individuals. In the future, there are likely to be a number of important developments relating to using EPSS to facilitate human communication. Assistive technologies will become pervasive in clinical situations that require long-term monitoring or where the activities of daily living can be enhanced by using appropriate technologies. Future developments in EPSS and performance-centred systems (PCS) are predicted to play increasingly important and dynamic roles for the benefit of both businesses and their customers. The growing adoption of ubiquitous and mobile technologies opens up new ways for businesses to communicate market and sell products to consumers.
