ABSTRACT
Selecting a suitable ePRO solution depends on why one wishes to use it. There are many ePRO solutions on the market and more opportunities arise as technology and the global technological infrastructure develops. The whole paper management issue with printing, distribution, collection and archiving disappears. It is not certain that these cost reduction elements in themselves outweigh the cost of the ePRO solution, and this will vary from context to context, but they will contribute significantly to the cost picture. Good compliance can lead to another important benefit; timely records are generally more accurate than late ones particularly in a condition that fluctuates in severity and fluctuating disease severity is often one of the reasons for using a daily diary rather than recall at a clinic visit. This can lead to substantial improvements in the precision of the study result, or to reductions in sample size if the PRO data are primary outcome measures.
