ABSTRACT
The UK qualifies both as a country of immigration and of emigration. Given that the majority of its current immigration is of a temporary nature, the UK can, perhaps more precisely, be described as a country of temporary migration flows. Moreover, conventional categories of emigration and immigration no longer provide an adequate conceptual framework. Rather, migration to the UK is better thought of in terms of global integration and global geographic mobility.
