ABSTRACT
The concept of this book is to present Europe’s border states, for the first time in any detail, as regions which share common problems that are amenable to common solutions, brokered by international bodies that can persuade Russia, one cause of the problem, to be part of a solution which must be based on international law and on the rule of law within the affected states. Improving the quality of lives for the people of these states is the key focus and the book argues that such improvement will come most certainly from removal of the geopolitical insecurity that currently afflicts them and spills over both their Eastern and Western borders. The security dynamics in the border states and their potential to spark wider conflicts gives an urgency to this study.
