ABSTRACT

The term MENA represents the acronym of a wide space which stretches from the Middle East to Africa, where it only includes the northern part of the black continent, in other words, from Iran in southwest Asia to Morocco in northwest Africa, covering all Middle Eastern and Maghreb countries. It has a population of nearly 418 million people (approximately 6 per cent of the world’s population) and is marked by significant disparities: there is a huge difference between some of the countries in this region, a good example – Saudi Arabia, one of the region’s richest countries is bordering Yemen, one of the poorest countries in this area. Despite these obvious disparities, the MENA region accounts for 60 per cent of the world’s oil reserves and 45 per cent of the world’s natural gas reserves, the large hydrocarbon resources transforming this part of the world in a very important source of energy resources. 1
