ABSTRACT

A family business is established and owned by a member of or the whole family. It is financed by the family, and managed by family members, which creates interdependence between the family and business. Succession in a family business is an important process to maintain the continuity of the family in the ownership of the business. This case study presents the culture and business laws in Lebanon and the Arab world that govern the work of females, and the effect of the country and regions culture and laws on the female role in leading a family business. Two cases that describe father daughter succession in a small family business and a big family business transferred into a family-owned corporation are used to demonstrate the succession process to a daughter. These studies show the importance of the continuity of the family business, and the social, cultural, family, and internal business factors that face a daughter when she takes over the business.
