ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on female immigrant entrepreneurs from mainland China. The Hong Kong Government is highly receptive of mainland Chinese immigrants due to their strong work ethic and the shared economic interests of both mainland China and Hong Kong. Hong Kong's Department of Trade and Industry provides financing through their small and medium entrepreneur Loan Guarantee Scheme by providing HK $5,000,000 for equipment loans and business installations and HK $1,000,000 for working capital loans. Hong Kong's Basic Law, permits the spouses and children of Chinese immigrants who are currently citizens of Hong Kong the right to migrate to Hong Kong, more Chinese female immigrants have been entering the country. The chapter also focuses on case study, that is about a Mei Foo, a 51 years old immigrant entrepreneur from mainland China, who owns a retail vegetable store in Hong Kong and managed to be successful, despite her lack of education and the difficulties she encountered in her path.
