ABSTRACT

For public or private sector agencies, there are alternative ways to address financial or other losses. Engaging law enforcement agencies is not always the first or the most effective way of responding. Financial loss, or decisions or actions that lead to financial loss may mean that restitution rather than retribution is a more effective–and efficient–response. Therefore, as has been mentioned on more than one occasion in this book, investigators should be aware of alternative approaches and options at the outset of investigations.
