ABSTRACT

The authors' 360 journey around the lighthouse brings them back to the original point of their interdisciplinary experiment: that bringing together disciplinary ways of seeing from all points of the compass allows them to reconnect and synthesise different understandings and to provide a deeper and more holistic view that is genuinely more than the sum of its parts. The concert explored in both experience and music the concept of light as carrier of information or of Words. One of the key things that an interdisciplinary endeavour brings to the authors' understanding of light is that the perceptual separation between academic expertise and human experience is illusory. As a day-lit monolith, the lighthouse is present to us in an all-at-once experience, but, as a coded pulsing light in the darkness, it is present to us in sequence and time.
