ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the present the case of Finnish Communication Camps as an example of an informal learning experience that complements the school by promoting the development of intergenerational bridges between digital natives and digital immigrants. The classifications of digital natives and digital immigrants make sense, and before proceeding any further, they should be more clearly understood on an empirical basis. The distinction between digital natives and digital immigrants remains an ongoing issue. Nowadays in these societies Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) such as the internet and the mobile phone represent essential instruments for managing work, social life and leisure activities. The chapter also focuses on Traditional Mobile Applications: Phone Calls and SMS. Digital natives and digital immigrants regarded phone calls and SMS as their favourite media because they are both quick and easy. Digital natives preferred SMS texts not only because they are not as expensive as the calls, but also because it is fun to send SMS.
