The Sweden Democrats, Racisms and the Construction of the Muslim Threat

Important shifts have occurred in Sweden over the last couple of decades that have made racism and racialization of migrants more conspicuous on all levels of society (Harvey, 2005, Schierup et al., 2006). In the above quotation, the leader of the Sweden Democrats (SD), a cultural racist party with roots in the Nazi movement, cites Islam and Muslims in Sweden as ‘the biggest foreign threat since World War II’.
