ABSTRACT
The Global Times (hereinafter the GT) is a Beijing-based tabloid newspaper that focuses on international news and affairs, as well as increasingly on important domestic events and issues. Published by the People’s Daily, a media mouthpiece of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), the paper was established as a Chinese-language weekly in 1993 and transformed into a daily in 2006. Three years later, in 2009, a daily English version of the paper was launched.1
