ABSTRACT

Aention There are always far more stimuli in our environment that we can see, hear, smell, taste, or feel through touch, than we can notice consciously. We select what we want to hear or see, i.e. pay attention to, and we ignore the rest. Most stimuli remain unheard, unseen, and thus unknown to us. For Stern and Robinson (1994), selection of sensory data is the rst step of perception. However, selection of sensory data may also be seen as a part of attention. When we attend to something, we select that information for further processing.
