ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews evolutionary good practice that makes use of e-learning trends that are now impacting on education in the United Kingdom. E-learning has become more established in education in the United Kingdom and is now developing as a delivery mechanism. The chapter talks about services to users and how library and information professionals can develop in the area of customer service and inclusion, which are increasingly important in the changing climate in the sector. It presents an overview of communities of practice, which is a different approach to a traditional activity within the library community that is normally described as collaborative working and networking. One of the challenges to the library and information sector is management of staff and service. Management is difficult to deliver in a formal educational setting and does to some extent require practical experience to be able to get maximum benefit from training.
