ABSTRACT

Health care systems are commonly divided into different components, such as provision and financing. The Centers for Disease Control set up at province, prefecture and county levels, after SARS hit China, as a whole public health service network working in the fields of disease control and prevention, public health management and provision of service. China has made great progress in achieving the Millennium Development Goals. Historical development of the health care system with national economic system reform can be divided into three phases: the health care system before the period of economic reform, the market-oriented system and the universal health care system. A health insurance program for the 420 million urban residents not covered by Basic Medical Insurance began to be introduced in 2007. The Chinese government has planned to improve infrastructure and equipment for county hospitals, township clinics, urban community health service centers and village clinics in remote areas.
