ABSTRACT

How can people become more courageous? The quest for a basic science modeling courage is ongoing: there are no empirically-validated interventions to increase courage at the time this chapter is being written. However, we appear to have a good start on delineating the primary features of courageous behavior. This chapter will present a theoretical overview of courage research and its implications to date, including defining features, different types of courage, associated frailties, and implications for the design and validation of courage interventions.
