ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book focuses on social work which is human rights and social equality. Human rights offer a normative base for social work and for formation of inclusive social policies. The mission of social work profession and development of social policy are rooted in a set of core values. The social work educators, Margaret McKenzie, Cecilie Omre, Liv Schjelderup, Shayne Walker and Susan Young, present a theoretical framework with different levels for holistic implementation of child protection practice. The book deals with respect for some most discriminated-against people of their time, the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community but the way forward seems to be split into different policy roads. Martyn Higgins finds that relevant studies in the social work literature on LGBT people tend to indicate that LGBT individuals and LGBT issues are absent in social work curricula and social work generally.
