ABSTRACT

The theory of human niches as a natural development and elaboration of the work of Clare Graves and spiral dynamics as postulated by Don Beck emerged during the more than 40 years of 'lived history' of Loraine Laubscher. Human niche theory explains that thinking systems determine attitude. Only when we think differently, can we change our behaviour and act differently. Through a process of inclusivity, and with transformational leadership as catalyst, organizational or societal goals can be achieved and sustainable transformation may occur. Human niches have nothing to do with forms of intelligence, but rather with attitudes that have become relatively fixed over time. Human niches narrate the thinking patterns of the brain that create such niches. At the societal level our thinking systems have changed over time, and new thinking patterns have led to new and different realities. Loraine Laubscher and the author applied the colour scheme assigned by Don Beck to developing countries.
