ABSTRACT

This chapter argues that in the emergent digital age, a real-life person is being transformed from a real-life individual to a digitally produced presence that dwells in a cybernetic space that is produced at the congruence of the real and the digital and focuses on the economic glance. The Trans-Indian here comes closest to being the global Internet citizen whose identity is completely created by discourse controlled by the real body which never has to disclose the real characteristics of the body or the real place where the body is located. The Centre for Disease Control (CDC) in Atlanta, USA reminds Americans that before visiting India, people may need to get the vaccinations and medications for vaccine-preventable diseases and other diseases they might be at risk for at their destination. The hypothetical Indian would have had a presence on one or more social media platforms and that presence too is unhindered by physical movement.
