ABSTRACT
Christians everywhere are completely and utterly disrespectful of Indians' sacred sites and their spiritual beliefs. American Indians have for a very long time strongly objected to the New Age Movement 'borrowing' spiritual items and beliefs from them for the very same reasons that are listed in this chapter. The appropriation of American Indian spiritual symbols by the Catholic Church is unethical without the full consent of all Indians. When one views the new-found concern with native symbols and their incorporation into the Catholic Church from a Native perspective, it is clearly a patronizing attitude and is offensive. Their new idea about incorporating some of the symbols into their church services is just another ploy to get a few more bodies into their churches at a time when more and more individuals are questioning the validity of the Christian faith. These new-found attitudes amount to neo-colonization at best.
