Infirmitas in Antiquity and the Middle Ages

Histories of various minorities in Antiquity and the Middle Ages have been written in increasing numbers during the past few decades. Scholars have focused on marginal groups in society such as the poor, foreigners and sexual and religious minorities. ¹ One of the last minority groups to be considered has been the chronically ill or impaired – often labelled as disabled.
