ABSTRACT

This chapter concentrates on Belgian feminism in order to study the impact in practice of the transnational exchange of ideas within the network of the Institut International pour la Diffusion des Experiences Sociales. The foundations of the network out of which the Institut International pour la Diffusion des Experiences Sociales grew, were laid in 1907 when Rudolf Broda began to publish the periodicals Les Documents du Progres, Dokumente des Fortsschritts and The International: A Review of the World's Progress as 'virtual' laboratories of social thought. The chapter discusses the notions 'international' and 'progress' are the most important and continuous element in the scheme of intellectual cooperation. When Broda founded the Institut International pour la Diffusion des Experiences Sociales based in Paris, his hope was that branches would also be created in other countries and that other organizations would become affiliated with it.
