ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book considers the idea of innovation within a setting that intrigues many, but has yet to be fully explored: Latin America. It draws together a series of chapters written by policy makers, academics and practitioners on their observations and interpretations of innovation. The book outlines the first Innovation Support in Latin America and Europe (ISLAE) conference. The KICKSTART project tackles the multifaceted but increasingly pertinent issue of international innovation by developing a network for academic entrepreneurship and knowledge transfer through a consortium of nine higher education institutions, from Latin America and Europe. The project also recognizes the importance of involving other key players within the innovation process and has designated a number of associated partners within each region, including chambers of commerce, ministerial departments and companies directly contributing to regional innovation support.
