ABSTRACT

This chapter presents three empirical case studies, deliberately diverse in nature and focus, and examines them in light of key elements of a conceptual framework developed through the author's previous research into generation of research impacts. The focus is on eliciting, analysing, distilling and sharing tacit knowledge concerning processes involved in the generation of impacts. Key aspects of Knowledge Exchange are highlighted here with findings from three case studies: a learning review of Scottish projects developing mechanisms for Knowledge Exchange with policymakers and practitioners; a UK-wide initiative in ICT research aiming to have impact on a range of users; and a set of Knowledge Exchange workshops regarding the future of a biotechnology workforce in the Chilean fruit industry. Focused attention on Knowledge Exchange processes can contribute to both generation and evaluation of impacts. Understanding dynamics, factors and roles will improve capacity to make the most of Knowledge Exchange processes, so that they generate innovation impacts.
