Cultural olive landscape around the royal cities of North-West Sardinia, Italy

In the open land of Sardinia, green belts of low and intensive agriculture around the cities form cultural ‘islands’ characterised by orchards, vineyards and vegetable gardens. Sassari, Alghero and Bosa (Figure 8.1) were once three of the seven royal walled cities of the Kingdom of Aragon that ruled over the island of Sardinia from the thirteenth to the eighteenth centuries.
