ABSTRACT

Police work provides many opportunities and experiences to realign with importance of self, of family, of what is truly important. If not careful, police work can be as seductive as a mistress, leading one away from what is real and true in one's life. The author came to understand a sense of peace beyond what he had known before and an overwhelming love through transcending the crises in police work. Prior to this experience, he was a police officer at another agency in a small Colorado mountain town for ten years. It is an unwritten rule in police work that men need to prove themselves only once as a police officer. Women must prove themselves each shift. Every woman in police work knows this. The experience is beyond the phenomena of time and space. In fact, one may think a person is crazy for having the experience.
