ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses a police officer's experience. He started his career in police work by answering an ad in the local newspaper. As he grew into the job, he became more and more fascinated with the investigations side of law enforcement and took several classes. His experiences in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina only served to enforce his beliefs in the importance of his mission. His work in death investigations was the foundation of his calling as a police officer because it became his mission to give the dead the last bit of dignity he could as they left this world. His one of the assignment was with a strike team. Their first assignment was to respond to a big hospital that had a report of six bodies in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). They had to wait to enter the hospital when they arrived because there was a pack of domesticated dogs that had become feral inside the hospital.
